Hakusan (Central Japan) were investigated under the seven different vegetations : Empetrum nigrum var. japonicum wind-blown heath (st.2, st.4), Pinus pumila shrub (st.3, st.6), Sorbus matsumurana shrub (st.1, st.7), Alnus maximowiczii shrub (st.5), Angelica pubescens var. matsumura tall herb stand (st.10), Carex blepharicarpa snow patch vegetation (st.8) snd Sasa kurilensis grassland (st.9). Against expectation, most of oribatid species did not show a special relationship to any vegetation. Similarity values based upon Jaccard's index were low among the oribatid communities.
