In orderto study the relations between the Dankai Generation and their music, I interviewed them about their musical experiencesand generational images, and got their talk structured by using various analysis worksheets. Consequently, a hypothesiswas generated: “Disparities and hierarchy consciousness existing in the Dankai Generation might be related to their musicalacceptance.” Next, by utilizing some data based on Japanese version of General Social Surveys (JGSS-2003&2008) andthe Internet investigation, I analyzed the relations statistically between characteristics of the Dankai Generation's musicalacceptance and hierarchy in chronological order. It turned out that their living level and musical environment in childhoodwere affected from their fathers, and that the fact has led to their current music appreciation and stratum identifications.In addition, it proved that classical music was favored among women or those with longer-term education, whileEnka ballads were favored among men or those with shorter-term education. The Dankai Generation, however, likes variousmusical genres, and in terms of plural tastes, Enka ballads had a strong influence. Furthermore, it showed that as generationschange from their parents to the Dankai Generation and to their children, higher educational background and apenchant for classical music has been succeeded. By my qualitative and quantitative studies, I have reached the followingconclusion: “Although the Dankai Generation has been lumped together, there were so huge numbers of people that competitionswere intense among them. There existed disparities and hierarchy consciousness, which were closely related withtheir musical acceptance.
