Since disability studies were organized in Japan, the social model has been accepted by a lot of people. But they understand that the social model is \"Not the individual but the society should owe the load of the disability problem\". Therefore, the social model\u0027s theoretical investigation is necessary and indispensable now.　Then, this paper first introduces a general explanation of an individual model and a social model. Afterwards, it introduces the criticism performed to a British social model and the response to it. And, the American Disability studies that have been taken up only on the side of the disability movements are paid to attention, and the American social model theory is analyzed.
